Melissa Barrera is a Mexican actress, born and raised in Monterrey, México. She first fell in love with acting through musical theater productions and drama classes from your education at The American School Foundation of Monterrey. Her first professional job was playing Juliet in the Mexican adaptation of the French musical Romeo et Juliette. After getting a taste in theater, she knew that’s what she wanted to dedicate her life to. She attended CAP21, the musical theater school which is part of Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. After two years she moved back to Mexico when she was selected to compete in a singing competition reality show called La Academia. From there she decided to stay in Mexico City where she spent the next five and a half years doing telenovelas, theater, tv shows and films. In 2017, she decided to make the move to Los Angeles to try the crossover and work in the English speaking market. Shortly after her move she booked the lead role of Lyn Hernandez on the Starz original series VIDA, the third season of which aired spring of 2020. She will next be starring in the lead role of Vanessa in the upcoming film adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s Tony winning musical, IN THE HEIGHTS to premiere June 2021.
